Why??

I am a 53 year old married woman with two grown children and one grandson. I was raised by my father and step mother. My father recently passed on after suffering a severe stroke. My step mother died about a year and half ago.
All my life they told me my mother abandoned us when I was 9 months old and never came back. My Parents said she ran off with an over the road truck driver that she met at her job waitressing at a truck stop. My stepmom was my Mom and she was a loving and nurturing person.
Yesterday I was going through my Dad’s stuff and inside a desk drawer I found a death certificate that says my Mom died from a drug overdose when I was 9 months old. All these years I thought she was out there somewhere and didn’t give a care about me. Why would they lie to me all these years?

My Father had an older brother and he passed away before my father. I think my Mom was an only child from the little information I had about her and who knows if that was even true.
