Young and Poor

Young and Poor

I am a 21 year old single female. I am employed full time in the Grocery business. I live on my own and have a small apartment that I call home. Between my rent utilities car payment and insurances I have very little left for anything beyond food and gas to get to work. My parents can’t help me as they still have my three siblings at home and they are struggling as well. Inflation is killing me and no matter how I try to save or scrimp on things it never seems to work out. I live paycheck to paycheck and my total savings wouldn’t pay one months rent. If I got hurt or got sick I would be in real trouble. I don’t party or go out. I work and go home. My life is pure drudgery and I have little or no social life. I go to church when I can and see my family on my days off. I am alone and sometimes lonely. I pray to God that I will someday see the light at the end of this tunnel. I have a friend that has offered to let me work in her escort business but I just can’t bring myself to lower my standards that far. I am so tired and so stressed and my life is nothing like I expected it to be.

You are so real. And you are not alone in struggling with necessities, little safety cushion and depression bc of your life situation.

Don't lower your moral standards, instead consider higher ed, like community college to enhance employment opportunities. There are many tuition assistance programs and grants. Best wishes.

My last boyfriend was a disaster and I am in no big hurry to find another. Once burned twice careful as my Grandmother says. Believe it or not I am enrolled for the summer in our community college taking two on line classes.

I just have one question for you Barb. How much credit card debt do you have?
Chuck 5 months ago
Chuck
Not sure why this question but I have only one credit card and I owe about $500.

Most young people carry way more credit card debt than that which kills them in their credit score and monthly payments. Next question what is your rent as a percentage of your income?
Chuck 5 months ago
My rent is $1,450 (one bedroom apartment) so that is a little less than half of my monthly income.

If my math is right you are making around 40-45K a year. If you had a roommate it would make life a lot easier for you. Maybe look into a different apartment that would allow you to share housing cost.

I had a roommate for a few months about a year ago. It did help the costs but she was a total slob and sharing a bathroom and kitchen with her was pure torture. I was elated when she moved in with her boyfriend. The weirdest thing was she kept the bedroom so clean and neat. Sharing a bedroom is not an ideal situation but it was tolerable. Thanks

Don’t feel alone girlfriend. I have $17 in my checking account that has to last me until Payday which is Monday. It just sucks that everything keeps getting more expensive. I have cut back and changed brands to generic stuff. I have stopped drinking beer, Starbucks and sodas. I work every hour I can get and even have a part time job. My kids are growing and always hungry—I don’t know what more I can do to make ends meet.

Call Barb’s friend and get a job at her escort service. You get paid and you relieve all that stress at the same time.
